North Central Public Health Investigates incidents of reportable diseases and conditions as well as disease outbreaks. Efforts focus on preventing the spread of diseases. Communicable Disease (CD) nurses respond to diseases reported by health care providers and laboratories.
They also respond to potential outbreaks reported by longterm care facilities, camps, schools, and individuals. Efforts are made to identify sources of disease when possible, as well as intervene to stop further spread of disease.
CD nurses employ a variety of activities to stop the spread of disease, which may include interviewing individuals, providing education and guidance as well as immunizations and referrals. During the process of disease investigation, private personal information is kept confidential.
