HIV/AIDS
We offer HIV testing and HIV prevention services, including HIV PrEP, in our clinic.
HIV/AIDS Testing
The CDC recommends that everyone get an HIV test at least once.
If you call us at 541-506-2600 for an HIV testing appointment, we will likely be able to see you that day. You can test anonymously if you like. If you are worried about the cost, talk to us; you may be eligible for a free HIV test. It usually takes less than a week to get your test results.
All tests are confidential. This means we can’t talk to other people about your tests or the results unless you say it’s ok. We have both English- and Spanish-speaking staff who can privately talk to you about your testing options.
Alternatively, you can get a free home-test kit delivered by mail to your house. In Oregon, you can order from the “I Want The Kit” website or the “TakeMeHome” website and get a test kit in a few days.
HIV Prevention
One of our nurses would be happy to talk to you about how to reduce your risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. We always have free condoms in the bathrooms at our clinic. You can pick some up without talking to anyone.
There are now medicines that, when taken regularly, are very effective at preventing HIV. This is called PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis. We offer PrEP in our clinic. We can do the initial testing to start PrEP, follow-up tests, and prescriptions. Call us at 541-506-2600 to talk with a nurse about PrEP.
If you think you might have been exposed to HIV in the last 3 days, you can take medicine to prevent getting HIV. This is called post-exposure prophylaxis, or PEP. We do not do post-exposure prophylaxis in our clinic, but if you call us at 541-506-2600, we can help you find a local provider who offers it.
If you test positive…
If you test positive for HIV, you can get help paying for doctor visits, transportation, medicine and other needs. To learn more about services for people living with HIV, call Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living (EOCIL) at 877-711-1037 or email them at eocil@eocil.org.
