WIC Eligibility
Am I Eligible For WIC?
You Are Eligible For WIC If You Meet All Of The Following Criteria:
Oregon resident
Household income less than 185% of federal poverty guidelines
Nutritional need or risk
Within one or more of these categories:
Currently pregnant
Just given birth
Mother who is breast feeding a baby under 12 months
Have an infant or child under the age of 5
Father, guardian, or foster parent of an eligible infant or child under the age of 5
What To Bring To Your WIC Appointment
1. Identification From The Parent/Guardian AND Identification For Each Infant/Child, Such As:
Oregon driver’s license
State ID card
Passport
Work or school ID
Oregon Health Plan medical ID card
2. Proof Of Income, Such As:
Individuals who can prove they are certified as fully eligible for Medicaid (the Oregon Health Plan), TANF, SNAP, or FDPIR are considered automatically income eligible for WIC.
Current pay stubs – 30 days’ worth
Unemployment benefit stub
W2 forms or income tax return
Foster Child/Parent Placement Letter
Signed letter from employer stating gross earnings
Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
SNAP award letter
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) “Notice of Approval” or most recent “Change Notice” letter
Electronic Benefits Card (Oregon Trail Card) will not be accepted as proof.
3. Proof Of Residence, Such As:
Oregon driver’s license
State ID card
Current utility bill
Bank statement
Rent receipt
When you make an appointment, ask if you should bring anything else.
What To Expect At Your WIC Appointment
At your appointment, WIC staff will check you in. Asking you some demographic information as well as reviewing and inputting your proofs into the WIC system. Then the certifier will weigh, measure and preform a hemoglobin test if needed. Later the certifier and you will review your diet and review health history. If you are eligible, you will receive nutritional information and counseling, referrals to other services, and an electronic card to buy WIC-approved foods at your local grocery store.
At Your WIC Appointment You Can Expect:
Your eligibility will be determined and you will be asked to show proof of income, identification and address.
You and/or your child will be weight and measured
You and/or your child will receive a hemoglobin or iron screening.
Growth and development will be explained.
Health and diet assessments will be done.
Your medical/nutritional history will be taken.
You and/or your child will be evaluated for medical/nutritional risk.
You will receive your eWIC card loaded with food benefits for you to shop with at any WIC approved store.
