Gilliam County Opening Its Own Health Department July 1

On July 1, Gilliam County will begin providing public health services to county residents, following its withdrawal from North Central Public Health District (NCPHD). NCPHD will continue to serve Wasco County and Sherman County.

Gilliam County Public Health will be responsible for the following public health programs and services:

·  Communicable disease prevention and control (including accepting reports of diseases and outbreaks and investigating reportable diseases and outbreaks)

·  Sexually transmitted diseases client services

·  Public health emergency preparedness and response

·  Tobacco prevention and education

·  Alcohol and drug prevention and education

·  Immunization services

·  Reproductive health services

·  Nutrition program for women, infants and children (WIC)

·  Maternal, child and adolescent services

·  Licensing and inspection of food, pool and lodging facilities

Current Gilliam County clients of WIC services will continue to be served by NCPHD through September.

Effective July 1, the Oregon Health Authority will be responsible for safe drinking water services in Gilliam County. If there are questions or concerns regarding safe drinking water services in Gilliam County, contact the OHA Drinking Water program at 541-276-8006. For drinking water emergencies outside of regular business hours, call 503-704-1174.
