Prolonged Power Outages – Policy Clarification
To All Licensed Facilities in Wasco, Sherman and Gilliam Counties :
This July 2019, Pacific Power has implemented a new plan for preventing wildfires by proactively shutting off power during extreme weather conditions that can result in catastrophic wildfires. This measure is called ‘Public Safety Power Shutoff’ program.
Power outages can occur anywhere as winter storms are frequent in the area
and natural disasters such as wildfires may disrupt power for an extended period of
time. For these reasons, NCPHD would like to provide guidance for our operators in the
event of a prolonged power outage.
Please see attached letter for more details about your establishment.
Summary Below:
Food establishments may not operate during prolonged power outages.
Swimming pools and spas must close immediately once power is lost.
Organizational camp facilities shall cease regular operations during prolonged power outage and implement evacuation plans.
Tourist facilities with food establishment services (such as bed & breakfasts) may not prepare and/or serve food during a prolonged power outage; however, sleeping and common areas of facilities may remain available if they are safe to occupy.
