Vaccine Report for Week ending July 23; MCMC begins offering vaccine in its clinics

Mid-Columbia Medical Center has begun offering the COVID-19 vaccine at its Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Immediate Care locations for patients coming in for routine appointments.

That is an encouraging step, as nationwide polling has consistently shown that healthcare providers are the most trusted source for accurate information regarding the vaccines, and many people may prefer getting the vaccine in a private setting rather than at a vaccine clinic.

Through July 23, more than 25,525 doses have been administered in Wasco, Sherman and Gilliam counties.

The vaccine is also offered every weekday at One Community Health in The Dalles, and is offered Thursdays and Fridays, at this time, at North Central Public Health District in The Dalles. Local pharmacies also offer the vaccine, including at Murray’s Drug Pharmacy in Condon.

While many doses given this week were second doses for those who got vaccinated at the mobile vaccine clinic at St. Mary’s Academy, more people are seeking first doses, especially in light of the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19, and a steady uptick in cases in Wasco County. There were 31 cases in the county in the most recent 14-day lookback, which was announced Monday.

For the week ending July 23, NCPHD administered 30 doses, and has done 15,787 cumulatively.

One Community Health administered 43 doses, 3,231 cumulatively.

MCMC administered 11 doses, and, including its previous work earlier in the pandemic, it has administered 1,500 doses cumulatively.

The St. Mary’s Clinic administered 1,658 doses in its six weeks in The Dalles.

Other entities that no longer provide vaccines have administered over 4,200 doses.

Wasco County has vaccinated 64.3 percent of those 18 and older, Sherman County 55.1 percent and Gilliam County 43.5 percent.
