Curious about water quality in your home or your neighborhood? Drinking water quality varies from place to place, depending on the condition of the source water from which it is drawn and the treatment it receives. The local health department works with the Oregon Health Authority to enforce drinking water standards. More here.
For questions or concerns about the quality of your drinking water, contact your water department (such as the City of The Dalles or Chenowith Water) shown on your water bill.
If you don’t receive a water bill, your drinking water may come from a small water system or a domestic well. Examples of where small water systems may be found include: subdivisions, mobile home parks, churches, schools, or private businesses that have their own well.

The closest lab for water testing in our region is The City of The Dalles Water Quality Lab located at 6780 Reservoir Road, phone number 541-298-2248. Click here for their flyer with information, hours, and directions.
At NCPHD’s office location we have empty sample bottles used for testing coliform and nitrate that anyone can request to pick up, take home, and test your own water. If you are required to test for arsenic which is common when you are selling your home and have a well, those bottles are not located at our office and need to be obtained from the lab.
